Diddy Kong Racing from Rare Ltd. is a game that I've found to be the cutest and most frustrating game that I have ever played. It's sort of a mixture of Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64. People may say it is MK64 II, but it is a leap ahead. Here is the game from a few aspects:

Technical/mechanical:

What can I say, the game looks BEAUTIFUL. The use of highly-detailed, rich texture maps with less polygon faces is not an ideal to be dismissed. And even though the game looks great, this helps keep the frame rate from dropping. In the multiplayer mode, 2D objects are removed also to support the frame rate.Overall, excellent job.

Story/ingenuity:

The game's storyline is pretty much common knowledge(even before you buy it). Don't let that stop you from the purchase. Short cinemas add a lot to it. The exeptional aspect(in ny mind) are the voices and different horn sounds. They really bring the game to life.

Extras:

Diddy Kong Racing is a great game, but this is where it really shines. In adventure one, you acquire Drumstick, one of the better characters. After conquering Wizpig, you recieve access to a fifth, secret world. Adventure two is opened by finishing that world. Sorry to say this, but, Nothing happens after that, unless you race and beat T.T. on EVERY track. Then you will recieve him as a secret character. Now the replay value. With magic codes and the multiplayer mode(Tracks), you're talkin' serious R.V.

Weaknesses:

I don't know what this obsession is with Rare and NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE CHEATS!!!!! The first was Goldeneye(Invincibility), and now that damn T.T. That aside, the game really fell short by not being able to save magic codes onto the cart. So, now, you must type in EVERY code EVERY time you play. Not too smart.

Overall:

Overall, A very solid title, and I think this game will broaden Nintendo's user base.------------"Hero"

Mini-Preview
Enter a beautiful 3-D world of magic and mystery with Quest 64 (working title), the first RPG to be released for the Nintendo 64. In Quest 64, the player takes on the role of a young adventurer with the unique power to manipulate nature, making him one of the chosen guardians of humankind known as a "Spirit Tamer." The mystical volume that reveals the secrets of the Spirit Tamers has been stolen, throwing all of Seltland Island into an era of darkness and spiritual chaos ...only you can save the day!

Features include:

1 selectable hero with 2 companions to discover and utilize throughout the game
  • A giant 3-D environment known as Seltland Island incorporating three large countries known as Velagoon, Anglus and Stonia
  • A dizzying list of spells utilizing the Spirit Tamer's power to manipulate the four spirits in nature - Earth, Wind, Air and Fire
  • Hundreds of characters, both friendly and otherwise, with which to interact and do battle

Wheel of Fortune from Gametek is, in my opinion, a rather unexpected title to be ported over to the N64. That isn't to say that it's a bad thing. Here's a look:

Technical/mechanical:

Gametek has done a wonderful job of re-creating the "TV" feel of WOF. The thing that I noticed the most was the use camera and scaling effects- The actually sometimes do make you forget that you're not in studio.

Story/ingenuity:

Wheel's a pretty basic game, but this is the category where the folks at Gametek added a little salt and pepper- spinning the wheel with the analog. It's almost like you have control over the wheel itself.

Extras:

It's sad to say, but there isn't too much to brag about here. There's only one thing- Rumble Pak compatibility. It's fun to feel the wheel as you watch it.

Weaknesses:

I want to win a car, a vacation, or something other than $25,000!!!!! It would've been something nice to see.

Overall:

WOF is evidence to parents that good, clean, fun titles are still on the market. Actually, this game may establish a baby boomer N64 cult.------------"Hero"
